Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

I’ll be a dandy, and I’ll be a rover
You’ll know who I am by the songs that I sing
I’ll feast at your table, I’ll sleep in your clover
Who cares what the morrow shall bring

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

I can’t be contented with yesterdays glory
I can’t live on promises winter to spring
Today is my moment, now is my story
I’ll laugh and I’ll cry and I’ll sing

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today

Today, while the blossoms still cling to the vine
I’ll taste your strawberries, I’ll drink your sweet wine
A million tomorrows shall all pass away
ere I forget all the joy that is mine, today.

Some Facts About the Today Song and Lyrics

The song is ” Today”. The words & music are by Randy Sparks (singer with the New Christy Minstrels). It appeared in the soundtrack of a motion picture, “Advance To The Rear”, with Glenn Ford and Stella Stevens.

Ray Conniff may have had a release of the song, but that was not the biggest hit of the song. There were versions by The New Christy Minstrels, The Brothers Four, Roy Clark, John Denver (several albums), and many, many other singers and groups. But it was John Denver’s version that was the most popular and the one you would hear on the radio.

The message of the song is about living for today and appreciating the good times when we have them. If you’re experiencing a time of personal trouble, this song will inspire you to appreciate each day and be thankful for it.

Every morning , for nearly 22 years now ( yes , since Oct.12-1997) , my wake-up cd-player starts my day with this live John Denver song from “An Evening with…”. It gives me new strenght and a positive feeling to cope with all possible problems that day. When John ends with ” you really sing good !!” I’m ready for a new day !!

  2. My father’s funeral song. I hear it all the time and know it’s him.

  3. i was listening to music well before this song was written. i NEVER heard john denver do it, not once. it was ALWAYS the randy sparks and the new christy minstrels. it was never a hit by denver, never made any list of top songs while sparks’ version hit no. 17. so why do you suggest denver’s was the biggest version of this?

I have been listening to music since before you were born and I always heard John Denver do it. Sparks version only hit 23
